On the main land of the south western Reykjanes peninsula a fissure awakened after a long sleep. Fresh lava began to fill the valley in a cycle that has persisted for the last four years. This photo was taken from a hill, now inaccessible due to the lava rise, 300m from the fissure. On this day the lava pushed 100m vertically out of the crater, it’s glowing plume illuminating the changing landscape in the dwindling night.
